I wonder if anyone has replaced the 464 vibrator motor with a regular ac can motor? Can you just use gears or a rubber band to turn the conveyor film?
A "can" motor is a DC motor, which needs a rectifier to be powered from an AC source--not that that has anything to do with using one to replace a vibrator.

I imagine you could, but regulating the speed might be challenging. Can motors tend to run fast (look at any starter-set engine!)
Even though they are incredibly noisy, I very much admire these vibrating motors. Lionel needed something reliable, and much cheaper than an AC motor and gearbox, to power its accessories while keeping them affordable as prices climbed thru the '50s. Never in a million years would I have come up with the vibrator-pulley-spring system that powers this and similar accessories. And they still work after all these years!
