Basement complete, ready to start bench work
Posted by wrconstruction on Saturday, November 10, 2012 8:00 PM

After 7 years, two floods, and three remodels, were ready to go! This is the third and final time finishing the basement. I have the foundation "Professionally Water Proofed" this time around and remodeled it a little differently, just in case the water proofing fails. So far, even after Sandy, its bone dry down there!!

I have a four day weekend over Thanksgiving, and the wife is going to see her parents in Florida, So I'm home alone for four uninterrupted days of bench work construction!

the room is an "L" shape 28 foot back wall, 30 foot long side wall with one short end @ 18' and the other at 16'

Glad you got the room "flood proofed", our kids went through that twice, third time was the charm after $$$ were spent taking care of the issue.

Take your time, making sure, that your bench work is where you want to be now and in 10 years.  That's a wonderful amount of sq. footage to work with for a layout.  Good Luck!!

Thanks Jon!! It just never seems to be enough square feet!!

Brutus,  I've been buying for 20 years, and staring down the basement steps at the damp wet mold ridden hole for 8 plus years wondering if it could be helped. I wish I took before pictures.....  It was on the verge of driving me insane!  be patient it will  be done soon

You have a great start. Keep us posted. I am in the process of relocating my train room also. 17 days to retirement for me.

Layout Photo Update: Gonna try to keep this all in one place.

MAIN Line Down!!!

Yep. that's a custom three track crossover I made by butchering some Postwar cross overs. They had there original boxes as well, oooppppsss

Pardon the mess,  A massive clean up is in store for this weekend.  then I'm gonna cut in my control blocks and  start the wiring.    there is still several hundred feet of track to go down yet.  Can't just have three main lines can you?

Ryan.......you must be very pleased to have so much behind you:  super space acquisition, the area all waterproofed and tested by the Fall storms, nicely finished area, the primary benchwork in place, and the ability to start looking at what "can" be with a zillion miles of track!!!  Rome wasn't built in a day, but you have made significant progress in a relatively short period of time. Thumbs Up

The progress will be slowing as we wont have any more time off work except for weekend untill Memorial Day. (unless we get some measurable snow!!!!!!!!! durning the week) And the wife would like the first floor repainted, which I have been putting off.......   My thoughts from the beginning were to at least have the mainlines running so I can go down there  and just "take the edge" off.  You know, have a beer or six and watch em run for a while!

And once the Mainline is opperational, I can start other projects like scenery, and signals, etc, so I can kinda just go down there and do what ever I feel like doing for an hour here and an hour there.

Thanks for the kind comments.

BTW, does any one know how to edit the title of a thread on here?

Jack the space was "aquired" and "resevered" before we even had settlement on the house. That was almost 9 years ago to the day.  she just kept finding other things for me to do....   I cant blame her the for all the delay, factor in a really bad enconomy for 2 years, a broken arm, and a whole slew of other not so warm and fuzzy things that life throws at ya, I guess in reality, I'm right on track... lol

looks like fun to me!!!!

Kev, you ever make it to York?

One of these I'll have to meet Laz at Barry's. Most of my stuff came from Barry through a "Runner" (My LHS gets his stock from barry) I just tell him what I want and HE goes and gets it.

Speaking of Laz, thanks for the comments, And I think some where I saw some pics of your layout, It looks pretty good as well  Some day I'll show ya how to drink the 16 Oz Old mills.......

Thanks to every one for all the positive comments.

I'm taking a break from the layout tonight
