233W Tender?
Posted by gottcent on Monday, January 23, 2012 11:59 AM

At a recent train show, I bought an old 2018 steamer which the dealer had matched with a 233W tender. (The number 233W is printed clearly in heat stamped lettering on both sides of the tender.) According to my books, this is not a correct tender for this engine. (I know what the correct tenders are.) But in searching, I wasn't able to find any postwar steamer matched with this tender. I did find several with 234W tenders, but none with 233. Anybody know when the 233W was made, and what steamer(s) it was supposed to be with?

ln the Sept 2002 CTT John Grams has a story on postwar tenders. Hls lst says the 233W tender goes wlth the '61-'62 Scout 233 & 2037.

The 2018 was available with several tenders including:

  • 1130T Lionel Lines non-whistling tender.
  • 6026T Lionel Lines non-whistling tender.
  • 6026W Lionel Lines whistling tender.

The 233 was produced with only one tender -- the 233W.

The 2037 was also offered with the 233w tender in the early 60's.

The 233w tender was made only for a few years in the early 1960's.

Thanks, guys. Actually, this is a pretty nice tender with a good whistle. It seems of better quality than the 233 steamer it was apparently designed to go with.
