022 Switch Problem
Posted by srguy on Saturday, January 21, 2012 12:19 PM

After months of flawless operation, an 022 on the layout is no longer sending power to the controller. The 022 is powered by constant voltage .... the lantern light has power but nothing to the controller. I tried the controller on another 022 and it is fine. I can't get any power when I connect the controller wires to the 3 terminals on the 022 ... my thought is that there is a problem with the center terminal because when I touch the center wire of the controller to the constant voltage connection and other wires to the outer terminal I get power to the controller. Any thoughts on how to remedy this issue???

The center connection on the switch motor is ground. To check if it is good, with the switch powered up, just jump either of the other terminals to the center terminal with a short wire, and the switch should throw. If it does not, check the center terminal inside the switch motor for a good connection to the frame of the switch machine. Also check the sliding contacts. They can get dirty, or lose contact.

Well, I can't figure out what I did but the switch is working. Electric trains ... go figure.

srguy, that is called "fixed by magic."  It happens occasionally.  Big Smile
