? Cheap 3 rail trucks?
Posted by Boyd on Thursday, January 5, 2012 12:54 AM

I am thinking of making my own gravity type center or side unloading cars. Whats the cheapest way to buy a lot of basic trucks. Nothing fancy needed but I do want them all to have couplers.

Modeling the "Fargo Area Rapid Transit" in O scale 3 rail.

At York some of the parts dealers have the cheap plastic trucks with couplers in their parts bins. Usually run around $2.50 to $3.50 per truck.

I've bought new Lionel diecast couplers on eBay for $10 a pair, you just have to set up a search and wait for a deal to come by.  I've also bought lots of postwar diecast couplers for even less, usually in a larger lot.  You can fix most of the coupler issues with the older ones, and you can even buy the posts for the ones without them from parts dealers.

Trucks on the scrap cars you find in boxes at train shows. Also the salvaged trucks on the tables.
