3356 Horse Car & Corral
Posted by lionel2 on Thursday, February 24, 2011 1:34 PM

Which door on the horse car are the horse suppoed to go into?  Is it the left door or the right door when the horse car is next the corral?  I think I have been using the right door for the horses to go into and out the left door.  I do not think its the right way. Little help will do.  I was always wondering why the horses never came out of the car.  Humm...Then how would you get the horse to go the right way??  If I just turn them around will they go through the left door?   Thanks.

lionel2,

As, you look at the car, the entrance into the car is the left door/ramp.

When, the unit is activated the left and right door/ramps drop down and meet with the corral.

The horses exit the car from the right door/ramp, come down the right ramp and enter the corral.

Depending how the corral gate is set, either the horses stay in the corral, or go through the corral, make their way up the left ramp and enter the car through its left door/ramp.

Good luck,

Ralph

Since we're on the topic, does anyone have an opinion on which LIONEL offering of the operating horse corral is the best running?

Furthermore, I don't have one yet, but which horse corral would work best with Fastrack?

As you know, I have the C&NW Version from 1999.  From my casual observations, it appears that the later Stock and Milk car operate better than their shorty ancestors.  The key to good operation with the later corrals is to boost the back-side(away from track) about a 1/4".  This lowers the grade the cattle must climb to re-enter the car.

As far as using FasTrack, the Corral is designed to use a special control-rail lock-on similar to that used for the Operating Brakeman Car but with power.  The "hot" powers through the control-rails on the lock-on, while the "common" goes back out through the wheels of the car.

To work with FasTrack, I've heard it mentioned that you can create very effective "control rails" from brass tubing mounted through holes drilled through the roadbed.  The wiring would be the same.

Finally, it is important to have two separate variable voltage sources for this accessory, so that you can adjust the car and corral operating voltages separately.

Fife,

When Lionel recently reissued the 3366 Circus version and the original 3356 version, the platform was redisgned to eliminate the steep hill into the car.  The ramp now starts smoothly in the center of the platform and is level by the point where the horse enter the car.
