Williams semi-scale GG-1
Posted by papa3376 on Sunday, February 13, 2011 12:55 PM

With the tax return coming I am thinking of getting the GG-1 I have always wanted.  I'm considering the Williams brand because I'm happy with the FP-45 I have by them.  Anyone got anything good or bad to say about the Williams semi-scale GG-1.  Thanks for any replys.

I have a Williams semi-scale GG-1. It is a great engine. Good detail and paint. Runs strong.

Check with Marty at Ma&Pa Junction as said above. He has the best prices. I also have a Williams FP-45. It is scale and also great.

I have a PRR one. Runs great as you would expect with a Williams and will pull anything you put behind it. And it is heavy. I have nothing bad to say about it unless you are looking for scale realism.

Thanks for the replys.  I think the tuscan 5 stripe will look good pulling my Williams Madison cars.

I have the Williams semi-scale GG-1.  The engine is a great engine.  I did modify the wiring to run the motors in series to slow down the engine and improve the headlight illumination.

My only complaint is the pantographs.  If you just look at them cross-wise, they fall off and they are hard to get back on.

I like my Williams GG-1. I will have to look into wiring the motors in series. That would be an improvement. When I run it at the voltage last used to run my MTH SF diesel, it races away. Yes the headlights are too dim at the low voltage needed to tun the GG-1. I had a minor problem with derailments at first, but it was tracked down to a wandering headlight wire getting tangled up with the front wheel assembly. I wish they has a speed control option like the MTH has.

One problem I have not yet addressed is that the GG-1 races away when it is leaving a siding, and I press the uncouple button. It is not due to the fact that it pulls a lighter load after uncoupling, as it slows down after it gets a few feet away from the siding. The rollers may be picking up the higher voltage from the uncoupling track. Although I am listing a few negative items, I would recommend this engine. I have no problems with the pantographs. HTH

I have this locomotive also, and I agree that the pantagraphs are easily removed and more difficult to install, but I will agree with the others.  It is a great running locomotive, and it will pull anything that you can tie to the back of it.  I would love to get a set of madison cars to pull behind this locomotive.

If I could afford one I would get it as well! Williams has quality and affordable prices. Don't buy directly from Bachmann or you will over-pay for anything, try Ma & Pa Junction.
