1122e switch control
Posted by pastime on Monday, January 10, 2011 8:43 PM

I'm having hard time finding controllers.  Is there a way 022 controllers can be used, have numerous controllers.  Any advice or suggestions will be appreicated.

1122s are meant to only power one bulb, so their controllers only have one bulb in them that illuminates two colored hoods, depending on the position of the switch and control lever.  022s are wired for two bulb use--red and green correspond to the switch positions.  You can use the 022 controllers to switch an 1122, but both bulbs will always be on, so it won't be an indicator, just a controller.  I have a bunch of 1122s on my layout, and, while I like their durability and ease of use, the incompatibility with the better controller has always ticked me off...:)  Unless anyone else has found a way to use 022 controllers with 1122s?

You can find 1122 controllers on eBay, but they can get outrageous depending on condition.  They're fairly easy to rewire if the wiring is old and brittle.  Best bet is to find one at an auction, estate sale, or train show, bring it home, and give it some TLC...:)

Just go ahead & use them.  The center wire goes to the ground/common terminal on the switch.

You can ignore the lights, take out the bulbs, or even better use them as occupancy indicators(a bulb will flash on the controller as rolling stock passes over it's corresponding control rail).
