Marx 999 Bulb Replacement
Posted by gottcent on Saturday, November 6, 2010 2:13 PM
I need to replace the bulb in a friend's Marx 999 steamer. It appears I have to remove the whole motor to do so. I removed the two side screws near the front, hoping the motor would slip out when they were gone, but no luck. I see a brass bolt holding on the trailing truck--is it also connected to the motor? I can't seem to get any tool on that bolt to loosen it--too much other stuff is in the way. Any advice on how to proceed will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. John Gottcent

I just went down and took my 999 apart. the two screws on the front come out, them the motor comes right out. may need to wiggle the motor a bit, and pull it forward. the trailing truck stays in place.

Thanks. I think someone inserted a bulb that's too large into this unit. When I tried to move the motor forward to release it, the bulb kept blocking its movement. Fortunately, the problem turned out to be that the bulb was merely loose, not blown. With judicious help from needlenose pliers, I was able to tighten the bulb without removing the motor. Everything's back together again and working OK. Thanks again.
