Turntable Bridge Design
Posted by aflyer on Sunday, October 24, 2010 11:03 AM

Hello to alll,

I am building a bridge for my new 19" HO turntable for use on my S layout.  The bridge will be decked over with 3/16 birch plywood.  This will be followed with hand layed rails, with wooden ties.  I think I have the height worked oud to match up with lead tracks which are good old AF track on AF rubber roadbed.

Now my question is what to make the deck look like.  I have seen walkways on one side of the rails and both sides of the rails, railing usually on both sides but not always. What width are your S Gauge bridge decks and what do the include?

Thanks to all in advance,

George

I have 42 views, and no reposnses, so I am going to guess I didn't ask a question very clearly, or there aren't any viewers who have turntables on their layouts.

I have decided to make the bridge deck 3 inches wide, and put  a walkway on each side of the hand layed AF rails. I looked at many prototype photo's, and walkways on both sides seems to be the norm. I am looking at early 50's era.

I am still interested in your input about what your bridge decks look like and any photo's you are willing to share is also appreciated.

I will post some photos as soon as I get something together that is worth sharing.

Thanks to all,

George
