Wiring Fastrack Operating Track Section
Posted by hrin on Saturday, July 17, 2010 11:27 AM

I read the manual that suggested wiring the operating track section directly to an accessory power supply of 10-12 volts. It stated this was for use when the layout is powered down.

What happens when you power up the layout or block? Does this mean you have to turn off the accessory power supply to the operating track before powering up the block? Will it still work with track power? Is there a way to have it both ways? LOL. If I wire it this way should I still be using 14 gauge wire?

Thanks for any help.

No, you wont have to turn off the power when the block is powered up.hooking it up to the accessory power supply gives it a consistant voltage setting which you choose. No it wont still run with track power and I cant think of a reason to have hooked to both.

Sounds like hooking up the operating track to accessory power only energizes the magnet and not the track. So, no, there would not be a reason to have it hooked to both. I was worried that it energized the track as well. That is good news. Thanks.
