I have been looking for one of the NW-2 locos to repaint as one from the EJ&E's. I will find one that is not in too good a condition cause I hate to repaint a nice one. I am curious about the two extra lights on the front and the radio wheel on the top front of the hood. These will have to go for my repaint but what are they and what were they for? Are they prototype?

The lights on Diesel locomotives are something that railroads love to customize; so you can find practically any arrangement on any locomotive model. However, whatever they are for, classification lights or just marker lights, if a locomotive even had lights in that area, the ones that are shaped like lanterns seem usually to be mounted diagonally out from the corners on brackets. So I would say your model would be a little more plausible without the Lionel style lights on the front surface.
The other thing is indeed a radio antenna and is prototypical, although rare. Lionel probably thought it made their NW-2 look like cutting-edge high tech.

And, this is what I would like to have as an end result. Not very pretty, but as a kid out of high school, I worked for the J and saw these in the yard on a daily basis. So, I thought it would be nice to have one.
