didn't see it posted, but I noticed on their shipping schedule that the CAB1 remote and Command Base are no longer being offered... so those of you thinking about picking up the original CAB1 and Command Base should do so.
I tell you I had the same panic attack but then I bought Legacy... you will never pick up the TMCC remote again....

That means when my CAB-1 and base die I'll need to spend several hundred dollars to use Lional's command system. Since I use a TPC and PM I'll need Bridges or a New ZW in addition to the Legacy system. At that point I may get rid of Lionel.
Roger,The CAB-1 and Command Base have been around since the mid-80s if memory serves me correct. To my knowledge I have never heard of either going bad due to wearing out... I have seen where people have destroyed their remotes because they don't know how to control their temper, but that is not a fault of Lionel's.If you want to keep your CAB-1 and Command Base and not upgrade to Legacy that is your choice, no one is forcing the upgrade on you. I posted this simply because I noticed they aren't in the new catalog AND the shipping schedule has them listed as 'This Item has been dropped'.

Not a DCS command remote. Addresses only PS2 locos, and only in conventional mode. One loco on the track at a time. Basically a conventional remote, which MTH has had for many years.

They still offer the K-Line remote as well. See page 152 in the Signature Edition catalog. It retails for $34.99.IMHO, Lionel should have continued to offer the original TMCC setup as well, but there was considerable confusion as to what you needed if you wanted to operate both TMCC and Legacy engines.

I am glad I bought my TMCC base and 2 remotes when I did. Legacy is nice, but too much for me at the moment. I think the original TMCC was a good entry level remote control system and to me it just does not make sense.

For the TMCC operators that have just one Cab-1 maybe purchasing a second unit might be prudent before only used ones on the secondary market are all that are available.

Honestly, I am suprised that Lionel kept TMCC around as long as they did after Legacy became available. TMCC has been around 15 years as of this year, so in a way I think that this was inevitable.
From a business standpoint, it doesn't seem in a company's best interest to offer old and new technology at the same time. The majority will stick to the older technology, which is cheaper than the new stuff. As a result, the company will lose their investment in that new technology. Lionel isn't the only company who has done this type of thing. Sony recently discontinued the Playstation 2, which had been available since late 2000.
If anyone is concerned about what they are currently using failing after it is discontinued, do what I do in cases like this and buy a spare to set aside. That way, you don't have to worry.
MTH's DCS set will run Lionel TMCC but you won't have all the features. Worst come to worst I just do that. All I really use it the basic features anyway.
Legacy runs TMCC engines better. addressing and adding lashups and breaking them apart is a breeze. And should you ever get a legacy engine you will not be disappointed.

The control knob on my TMCC spins freely and requires full revolutions to get a train moving. When I inquired on another forum about a fix or adjustment of the tension on the knob; I was told that the fix was to replace the unit.
