k-line shay smoke/no smoke

 This is my first attempt at a "post".

My k-line shay smokes, sometimes.  After it has rested, that is off, for a few hours, mainly overnight, when started up initially, it smokes very well.  I run it for 5 or 10 minutes, smoking, and then shut it down.  When it is started up again 5 minutes later, it does not smoke at all.  This behavior is most frustrating!  Overfilling or underfilling the reservoir does not seem to make any difference.  Does anyone out there have any observation about the cause?  Does someone out there know how the smoke unit is assembled on a kline shay?  I have taken apart a smoke unit on a kline caboose so i understand the resistor and fiberglas in the pot assembly, but i have never taken apart a shay smoke unit.  Any observations would be helpful.  Thanks Ed Marcotte
