No Power F3 engine
Posted by 2356 on Saturday, January 2, 2010 12:33 PM

My F3 (2356) will not start today.  With the engine taken off the tracks my passenger cars light up.  When I place the engine on the tracks I have nothing. No lights on the passenger cars, no light in the engine, no hum from the motors etc.  Where do I start to diagnose the problem?  It ran for an hour yesterday with no problems.  At first today it would light up but I could just barley get it to move with full power from the KW 180 transformer,  but now I have nothing.

Thanks

1.) You have a short or open "bare wire" somewhere in the locomotive.  Check the collector wires that they did not rub thru or break off.  Check all solder connections as they often go bad.

2.) Your E unit is bad or in need of rebuilding.  Very common problem.
