Saw a couple items on the buy list. The Mount St Helens smoking boxcar and the TrackMobil.

Can't wait to look through it! Been waiting for a while, now I'll have something to do when I'm waiting around campus for class to start, haha.

Big L certainly took some liberties with some of its paintshemes.Whistling  Would love if NS actually did paint some of its fleet in heritage colors, just don't hold your breath.  Wide array of product in this catalog, certainly worthy of a look.

Am I missing it, or has tubular track disappeared from this catalog? I saw Fastrack, but no tubular.

I REALLY like the New Haven McGinnis black/orange F3. I don't see a B unit for it, though. Probably a later release to make sure the A-A units sell well. I hope it is scale size. A shame it wasn't released with TMCC or Legacy.

I can't believe they made an SD90 with the old NYC Lightning bolt scheme on it!!! I guess they are tired of putting the same few colors on the new era of locos. Maybe that's why they did the NS colors? Kinda strange to see a Legacy trainset in the Classic/Traditional line. I wonder how well it will sell?

Good grief...does ANYONE buy a loco for $2,249.99????? I mean Frank Sinatra is gone, and even the guy on the Sopranos wouldn't pay that much money. Laugh

I'm still patiently waiting for the re-re-re-re-release of the S-2 turbine and GG-1 in scale and Legacy. But I shudder to think what the price tags will be. Shock

Agree but they will not.  So I'm not buying the "junk".  Will still buy MTH that paints them right [and I'm a Lionel fan].

I agree with Chief. I understand the "why" of painting the trains in varied colors. It's to appeal to more buyers who like the colors over authenticity. I remember a while back when Lionel painted a bay window caboose in the NYC lightning stripes scheme. Looked real purdy, but no such caboose paint scheme ever existed. But that was in a traditional-size caboose. Even more distressing is that the NS fake paint is in the "Classic Line/Standard O Scale". Previously we could pretty much figure that that line would have protypical size and paint. That is now out the window with the NS fantasy schemes. Sad

Not to offend anyone but hasn't lionel done wearder in the past how aboult the highly collectibal girls train or the miltery trains?  I don't think a steam loco was ever painted pink or did the US goverment have it pulling a minuteman car?Confused  I love the NS heritage paint paintshemes even if they don't exezist in real life I thought this hobby was for toy trains.

The above is corrected for spelling.

Spelling may be optional, but it took me several minutes to decipher what the  heck you were talking about.  When you type, you'll notice little red dotted lines under the misspelled words.  Right click on them, and a drop-down menu will show a list of close to correct words.  Some of your attempted communication though was too far off to even make a list.

Lionel 773 hudson

So do you know WHY the pink girls train is so "highly collectible"? The reason is it was a TERRIBLE seller for Lionel back when it was made. Girls who wanted trains wanted trains that looked JUST LIKE the trains that boys were using. In other words, they KNEW there were no pink trains, so they didn't want them. And the minuteman car was planned to be a REAL item by the military. Not some fantasy item. They were supposed to be mobile so that the Russkies couldn't pinpoint them with their nuke missiles. I don't think they ever reached fruition because many states objected to nuclear weapons zooming around on railroads. Too much chance of an accident with catastrophic consequences.

Nobody is complaining about the looks of the fantasy paint scheme on the NS cars. Heck, we'd LOVE to see NS actually PAINT their cars that color. The problem is the paint is on SCALE cars that are supposed to be modeled after REAL railroad cars that actually exist. Yes, the hobby IS about toy trains. But within the toy train fraternity are those of us that prefer their big $$$ scale cars and locos to be based on something that actually exists. You won't find many scale fans buying the Hogwarts or Wizard of Oz trains. Wink

P.S. Thanks to Jon for translating. I thought maybe I had been tipping the Hard Lemonade bottle a bit too much trying to read the original post. Big Smile

In my best Samuel L Jackson imitation, "Oh, well allow me to retort..."

I hope LIONEL sells completely out of their whimsical SD70ACe and SD90MAC.  A strong LIONEL will mean many more trains in the future.  But right now, it's a fickle market. The fanta-schemes I believe will only have a limited appeal (ask any dealer who had to blow-out the NASCAR merchandise at cost...)

When I saw the new modern diesels, my thought was, "that's all they are offering them in...?"  I mean, LIONEL couldn't also paint some of the SD70ACe units in BNSF, UP (regular) CSX, or better yet throw a bone to some other guys who model Montana Rail Link, KCS (2 different schemes there), or even the EMD Demo.  Same for the SD90MAC.  Along with BK's personal fave NYC, why not also offer UP, CP, CEFX (for those power hungry rr's), or a regional (and a beautiful red paint) INDIANA RR.

As far as the "toy" end of the spectrum, I personally liked seeing the Boy Scout Train, Lone Ranger set,  Atomic set (always wanted on of those reactor thing-a-ma-bobs) and of course the Christmas offerings will always sell.  I even thought the Hogwarts engine in Christmas colors was a no-brainer...looks sharp.

Well I'm still waiting for the Pee Wee Herman toy train set. But I think Lionel may have scrapped that idea.  Laugh
