Question about American Flyer
Posted by Lionelking313 on Thursday, July 23, 2009 7:48 PM

Are the wheels and axles on American Flyer freight and passenger cars, plastic or metal?

Just curious, I have seen some with both, especially the MPC American Flyer, had plastic wheels and trucks.

Thanks from a Lionel Collector

Gilbert (postwar) Flyer freight and passenger cars used steel axles with plastic wheels, except in cases where the wheels were used for electrical pickup.  It's the major reason why AF runs so much quieter than Lionel, with its metal wheels and pickup rollers on hollow metal rails.
