what kind of computer do you have? if a mac, bento from filemaker is a straightforward, easy to use database system that many people have used for this purpose.

 I use TrainMinder software. Pretty easy to use and has some cool features. Here is their website.

I just set up an Excel file.  Not very automatic, but it works.

 I use Excel also. I really need to get rid of that total spent column.Confused

 I use MI trains, it works fine but it gets expensive if you buy the semi-annual upgrades everytime a new catalog comes out.
