Does anybody out there have one of the Williams E7 B units? Are they scale or traditional sized? What are the mesurements for length, width, and height?
The Texas Special piece in the back cover Williams add on the May CTT caught my eye. If it is the right size, the price is not too bad.
That brings up the next question - how to add a Legacy compatable variable smoke unit?
Most of the Williams engines are based on post war Lionel dimensions, hope that helps.
To add anything to a Williams engine you must buy it from a parts dealer then have it added. You have to think about warrenty if you add something to a Williams engine. Williams comes with just a basic engine and maybe a sound unit in the E-7 B unit.
I have an F-7 B unit with a sound unit in it and it is rather nice.

Thanks.
I looked the E7 B unit up on the Bachmann-Williams web site. The only dimension they gave was a lenght of 16". Might be enough of a lead to scale the photograph and estimate the other dimensions.
Just out of curiosity, how tall is your F7 B unit from the top of the rails to the roof? I'd expect the E7 B unit to be close to the same height.
If it is the right size, I'd like to add it between the E7 A units pictured in my avitar.
Williams' E-7 units are pretty good scale representations of the real thing. I have the Williams Union Pacific E-7 A-A and they match in size and look nice next to my Lionel Texas Special E-7 A-A.
The only issue might be that the color may not match if your E7-A units are not also from Williams.
The Texas Special did not use B units with the E-7 power. The Katy did not even own any E-7B units. I'm pretty sure that is why Lionel did not offer them in that set. If it was a separate sale item I would not have bought it unless I needed to scavenge the sound system from it to put in an A unit.
Thanks for the information TexasEd. I agree on the paint - I'd be amazed if it matched.
