childs train themed bedroom
Posted by asch on Monday, March 9, 2009 2:49 PM

Hey guys, I am in the process of doing my sons room up in a train theme. I have painted a huge train on the walls and am puting an LGB around the ceiling. Everything is going great so far but I have run into a problem. I can not remember the name of the company located in Wisconsin or Michigan ( I think) that sells train collectables and memoriblia. I would like to get a lamp, and some other niknaks for his room and threw the catalog away before I thought about it. I think the company name is Shroders or something like that. If any of you could provide a link it would be a great help. Thanks!

You could do something like I have done.

We have several shelves that are far out of his reach that have various trains on them.

We have an 8 3/4" gauge ride on train set that has some cars serving as furniture in his room. The gondola to the train is 6 1/2 feet long and 1 1/2 feet wide. My son uses it as a bed. (When he outgrew his crib, we got him a toddler bed, but he would not sleep in it, he opted to take a few pillows and toss them in the gondola and sleep.

The caboose from the set currently serves as a play area.

Good luck, and have fun,

James

Thanks for your help guys. We already have the crib and stuff but I did make a comment to my wife that when its time for a "big boy bed" I would build one with a locomtive or other traincar theme. The room is all but finished now, just waiting on the 25 feet of LGB track to come in to finish the train around the ceiling!

Just to be safe, Dad should err on the side of caution and get both.  And your picture is worth a thousand words!

so is the bed designed to look like a flat car, railcar ? and is the closet opening disguised as a "tunnel" ? (make sure that there is a light in it)

cheers, krump

Right now he is in a crib and there is no closet (this room used to be my train room when I was about 18). When he gets into a real bed I will make him one that looks like an engine or something!

sorry about the strike on the last post...let me try it again! Right now he is in a crib ( just turned 5 months) and there is no closet in his room because when myy grandmother and I built the house 12 years ago, his room and what is now the toy room were built as my train room. Since my wife and I remodeled the house, the trains moved into the garage and the room was split in two to be a bedroom and toyroom. I plan on making him a train bed when he gets old enought to sleep in something other then a crib! Pics will be coming soon I hope!
