I picked up the set today. Nicely done I must say. Good job Lionel.
Neat!
Does it pull the add-on cars? I had trouble with the BFOC, it would only pull 2, not all 3 (original consist)....
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
I will run it tomorrow and report back. I hope so. If not it's cool to look at. LOL
That is one nice looking train!

Beautiful packaging, from what I can see lots of detail on the train.
Wouldn't mind more photos . . .
I'd have to put it in the fantastic rating !
The John Bull is as strong as a Bull with plenty of power to easily pull the three coaches.Pardon the rough layout. Our house is being remodeled and the train room is Aaaa well [storage] The train runs like a fine watch. The engine does not have a E unit. A swt. is located on the roof under a cover for fwd and rev. The two traction tires provide the umpf. The detail is awesome.
One COOL ENGINE!!! Have fun!

Mark,
I'll be there 7am til about 10am or so this thursday depending on how the Sir Topham Hat thing goes and on friday til closing, 4pm. Be more than happy to show you around and give you the rundown on membership, etc. Just look for the scruffy old codger with the beard, I grew the beard so CTT visitors would know who to look for.

WOW ... that is a beautiful set ! Love that little guy riding along . What is he ?
Sweet! I didn't order extra cars - might have see if they got any in on spec!
Looks Great!!! What type of couplers did Lionel use on these? Are they the standard 3 Rail, Link and Pin, or some thing else?
May your flanges always stay BETWEEN the rails

I heard some concern about size. I know Lionel modeled this to scale and some have said it looks more like an HO engine than an O? Now back when the John Bull was first produced it was small... so you have to keep that in perspective.Nice model though - thanks for sharing!
Very true brent ... lionroar .... much smaller and they were much more elaborate in trim also . Even the passenger coaches and other cars were decorated outside and extremely highly beautiful inside compared to later giants introduced . Solid hardwood engraved furniture instead of assembly line type furnishings .... in the higher end cars . Real upholstered couches and chairs .... no flop down beds ... LOL . I don't know what year they went to the commercial type engines and cars .... ? I'm so glad lionel finally built a high end looking engine in that era ... hope they manufacture more .... geez ... maybe even some a bit lower in price ... yea right ... LOL . Seemed only On3 and 2 rail had the great detailed older engines until now .
Simply exquisite. Thanks so much for taking the time to post photos.
Doug, what Sir Topham Hatt thing?

I saw one on display and naturally for sale at Wild Bills this afternoon. Was tempted to purchas it but am saving and awaiting the Pere Marquette 1225.
Make a Good Day !
Look what I found under a bag of silica. Tha engineer and fireman, flags and two round things I have no idea what they are for. These items are not mentioned in the Owner's manual.
This is for the rivit counters. Picture is from 1831 of the John Bull. Good Job Lionel.
Lots of tiny details and levers moving. Wish they had slipped a smoke unit in it. Miss Edna had one running yesterday. Will not be paying $400+ for it. Worth it to the collector or somone who likes to run early engines.

The engine does not have a smoke unit.
