Brunswick Green GG1 Windows
Posted by aceape on Sunday, December 28, 2008 6:45 PM

Hello and Happy Holidays to all,

Can anyone tell me why the windows on the Williams Brunswick Green GG1's are outlined in red and is it supposed to be on both sides of the locomotive?  Was this something that was prototypical with the real PRR GG1s and Lionel GG1's or is it something specific to Williams?

Thanks,

aceape

I think that red around the windows is prototypical, but much more subtle than the Williams version.  Here is a prototype:

And here is the model:

The Pennsylvania Railroad had a bunch of different paint schemes and variations over the years, some with, and some without the red outline around the windows.

There were GG-1's in Brunswick Green with really thin striping the whole width of the body, the familiar Brunswick and five stripes, Tuscan Red and five stripes, Brunswick and single stripe, silver with red stripe, and that's not counting Penn Central, Amtrak, Conrail, and NJT paint schemes!

All time worst: Conrail's Bicentennial GG-1.

Thanks for the reply and information.

Does your 2330 have all four windows (both sides) outlined in red?

That's not my locomotive, just a picture of a Williams that I grabbed off the Internet.

FWIW, my Williams 2360 has all 4 outlined in red. My original Lionel 2332 does not. The picture of the 2360 in the Williams/Bachman 2008 catalog shows no such red outline. Even though there were some actual GG1s with red outlines, my personal opinion is that it looks garish, and if I had any Brunswick green paint I would eliminate them.
