Circuitron Tortoise Website?
Posted by jkerklo on Friday, April 2, 2004 9:11 AM
I am looking for the website for Circuitron or specifications for the various Tortoise switch machine models and related hardware.

I have done a number of searches, but can only find the numerous sites that sell the devices, but none reference a web site or include specs.

I'm thinking either the website is under a different corporate name, or there isn't one (which I find hard to believe, since the devices seem so popular).

I have references for "Rotor Motor" and "Torquemaster."

My interest is in using the Tortoise for animation. It has switch contacts that would be quite useful for controlling motion.

Thanks

It looks like a web site is imminent. See http://circuitron.com/

Well, it looks like I couldn't find a Circuitron/Tortoise website because there isn't one.

There are at least three "Circuitron" companies. The one that serves the toy train market and makes the "Tortoise" switch machines is:

CIRCUITRON
211 ROCBAAR DRIVE
ROMEOVILLE, IL 60446

815-886-9010

I talked to the owner, Steve. He is working on a website, but is very busy. He does expect to have a new catalog available in a couple of months ($6.00).

Threre is only one model of Tortoise (I had seen different model numbers on selling sites, but that was just individual sellers' numbers.)

Steve cautions that he only sells the Tortoise through distributors, who are only supposed to distribute to hobby shops. Any large internet store (selling at a significant discount) probably doesn't have them in stock and we would have to wait for them to get product from a distributor. Any experience with this?

Last January(2003) I had a hard time finding the machines I needed but finally had success by calling the companies/sellers direct (most had 800 nos.) and simply inquiring if they had what I needed in stock. It was a lot quicker than waiting for email replies.
