MTH Russian Decapods...anyone have one yet?
Posted by thedarkknightt on Saturday, December 6, 2008 4:46 PM

I have been lusting over a couple of these in ACL livery ever since I had the catalog hit my hand!

Growing up seeing these engines working on the local Gainesville Midland Railroad when we went to Athens, GA they kind of hold a special place in my heart...so you can understand my obsession. Bow

Anyway, I just got a call in from a dealer that I had my name on the list to call when he got one in...
But I just read some disturbing news about how these engines- which are hovering around $1K mark only have center rail pick-ups on the tender, and may stall out going over certain switches.

Ok, I can accept that MTH  pays no where near what these things retail for because they are imported...
I can accept that they aren't made in the US...
But it is hard for me to accept that they have no "hard wire" or such from the tender pickups to the motor and I'll have to modify it so it won't stall out on switches and crossovers. This problem shouldn't even come up as an issue.

Sorry for the rant, I guess I just have to have the dealer run it for me. Wink

Anyone have one yet? Pics?
