Posted by DMUinCT on Friday, March 14, 2008 10:50 AM

  Heads Up

If you are a TCA (Train Collectors Association) member and thinking about attending the National Convention in Burlington Vermont, June 21st - 29th, GET YOUR REGISTRATION FORMS IN NOW!

Good news (or bad for you if you have delayed), three of the Host Hotels are Sold Out, the Dinner Cruise is Sold Out, the Banquet is Sold Out, as well as three of the Tours, and this is only March.  Half the membership is driving distance to Vermont.  www.tcavt2008.org    Tours to Canada will require Passports (bus company requirement).

One of the "hot" tours was the Conway Scenic trip.  The road was nice enough to figure out a way to get more folks over the line, so we've got some more openings there.  The Cafe Lafayette train sold out quickly too, but some of the best stuff is still available.

If anyone here has hotel/motel questions, or transportation issues, feel free to ask!  I look forward to seeing many of you in June.

  Kooljock,

Did you make it to the New England TCA meet last Sunday?

I was table C-1, over behind Ted.

What could be better than New England in June? Sounds like a great week planned!

DMU,

Nah, Sundays are tough for me because of church duties. Besides I spent all of Saturday at the Vermont Rails Train Show in Essex Junction.

Jim,

Are you coming in June? If you're not TCA, we'll be opening the doors to the general public on Friday June 27th and Saturday June 28th. This includes everything except the trading pits. So you can chat with the guys from Lionel and MTH and we'll have some very large modular clubs as well as smaller layouts. It should be fun, and admission to these areas will be free.

As a recent TCA member, I was not aware of the convention until a few weeks ago. I know that the host hotels are sold out by now so I got a room at the Hilton in Burlington. My wife and I plan to be at the reception on Wednesday and at the exhibit on Friday. I look forward to seeing meeting everyone.

Crabby,

The Hilton is at the foot of Main Street on Battery, and overlooks Lake Champlain. It's expensive, but has a stunning view and was just re-modeled. The Green Mountain Chew Chew Food Festival will be right across the street, the trains in Middlebury will leave from Union Station near there as well, and we'll be running hourly shuttles in a downtown loop, that you'll be able to catch from across the street.

Thanks for the info Jon. I was able to cash in my Hilton points so the room isn't costing me anything. I look forward to seeing you at the convention.

Looks like we are running out of food.

Now the Welcome Party is also Sold Out.  With the Dinner Cruise and Banquet both Sold Out, it looks like TCAers like to eat!

Plenty of food! Not plenty of space. It's a small state you know! But you're right, TCAers like to eat!

UPDATE!!!

Tour 6b, the Burlington to Middlebury train on the old Rutland ROW is almost sold out. You need to hurry to get a spot.

There are just 24 spots left on the newly expanded Conway Scenic trip. These are going fast too!
