How to fix Sticky Pendulum Reversing Unit??
Posted by lionel2 on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 7:39 PM
I have a 384E standard steam loco with a sticky pendulum e-unit.  The loco runs fine in forward and I had it in reverse at one time, but it seems not to wanna switch directions.  When I flip the little e-unit lever down it will stay in foward and when I push the lever up, so that it is able to switch between forward and reverse, it just clicks and will not switch to reverse, just stays in forward direction.  I know these e-units are hard to get working right.  I also got the railing stanchions installed with new brass ones, looks good now.  But, gotta get that e-unit working right.  any help will be greatly appreciated.  thanks.

If there is no obvious mechanical wear, the first thing I do with a sticky mechanical reverse is shoot it with tuner cleaner/lubricant and work it in. It often solves the problem.

Ok, I took the loco to my hobby shop and told them what was wrong, I am no good with standard trains, but great at postwar O gauge.  Let them handle it.  They said a few weeks, which is no problem, dont need it til christmas anyway.  thanks.
