P/W coupler springs
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, January 19, 2008 10:13 AM
About 6 or 8 monthe ago I went through my P/W rolling stock and replaced all the bad coupler springs. last week I took some out to run and found the springs I had replaced lost their tension, they were in the closed position during storage, but the origional springs were also stored that way (and for 50 years longerWink [;)]). I have purchased them from different reputable vendors and they all come in the same package and look the same. these are probably poor quality "looks like parts" imported parts. are there any modern couplers that have this type of spring which would still be available in OEM.

JOhn, I feel your pain. I get very frustrated with poor repro parts as well. I've had more than a few 3eunit drums that weren't quite right and required some careful trimming.

I plan on doing the coupler spring repair one day so I hope someone can point the way to a vendor who has quality parts. I know I haven't gotten a bad part from Jeff Kane at Train Tender, so you may want to give him a call and get his opinion. He will definitely stand behind his part for sure.

thanks Mike, my vendors stand behind theirs also. the problem isn't the 5 cent spring, its my big fingers Approve [^]with those small parts. it took me a while to master coupler springs.
