2008 TCA National Convention Booking Quickly!
Posted by Kooljock1 on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 5:04 AM

Gang,

As many of you know, I serve on the 2008 TCA National Convention Committee. We met last night at our host hotel: The Sheraton Burlington Hotel & Conference Center. Although the registration forms have only been on the streets for a few weeks, hotel bookings and tour bookings are going very quickly!

A few reminders:

1. If you plan on booking a room, use the numbers for the hotel in your TCA packet. We've already had some complaints from folks not getting the TCA price, but they were using the national 1-800 line instead of the number in their registration material.

2. If you've booked a room, but are leaving it open to change your mind later, we will be checking the hotel bookings against the convention registrations. We will contact those people and give them a chance to register before they forfeit their room to a registered attendee.

3. The "spill-over" hotels; The Doubletree and the La Quinta will be connected to the Sheraton by free shuttles for most of the week. These shuttles will also make the loop to the waterfront and downtown shopping/dining areas. By not staying at the Sheraton we hope you will not feel disconnected.

Jon,
Really wish I could make this trip! It has been 21 years since I've visited Vermont and really wanted to get back. Just couldn't swing it this year. Hope all have a grand and wonderful time.  Can't wait to see some pics!

The 2008 TCA Member's Convention, Burlington Vermont, the week before the 4th of July, great weather, Dinner Cruise on the lake, Tour Trips to Canada, I wouldn't miss it ! !

Registered with the Sheraton on-line, Jan. 2 using the TCA link from the Convention Web-Page.      Sent in my Registration Jan. 1, will come in Monday, going home Sunday.  No problem with Sheraton, good room choice THEN, right TCA price.  John G. has already sent back a Confirmation of payment for my requested tours, Cruise, and Banquet.

Gee, you guys are doing great.

I think the TCA Convention is going to be BIGGER than was the plan.  I see by the  Convention Web Page that the anchor hotel (Sheraton) has sold out as of your Jan. 16th posting and you are now setting up Shuttle buses to the other Hotels !

Six months in advance, THIS LOOKS GOOD !

By the way, is Classic Toy Trains going to have a display ?

They've been invited!

And yes, we're a little blown away by the response so far. I have to say my involvement with this group of TCAers has been one of the most rewarding experiences I've had in or out of this hobby. So much is said about York or the TCA on a national level, but I think the heart and soul of the TCA is small groups like ours getting together and coming up with ways to have fun.

A reminder too about PASSPORTS! I know there's been news as of late that the DHS won't require passports for cross-border travel.

BUT THE BUS COMPANY WILL!!!

No passport, no trip!!

Of course there's plenty going on state-side, so that shouldn't be a hitch!

The NETCA run TCA Conventions, 1978 in Boston and 1998 in Providence, both topped one thousand attendence.  Only 9 of the 53 TCA Conventions have done that.

Yes, I'm legal, my wife and I have passports and have signed up for two trips to Canada.

I remember how great Burlington and Vermont was in the 1960s.  Working on The National Life job in Montpelier in 1960, doing the elevators at Mary Flecher Hospital in 1967, even in my younger days, sking the hills of central Vermont.  I even remember the Rutland Railroad and the strike that put them out of business.

See you all at the March NETCA meet.
