Train show Prices!!
Posted by lionel2 on Friday, December 28, 2007 6:56 PM
I am looking into buying a Z transformer, some #222 standard gauge switches with controllers, and maybe another standard gauge loco.  I was wondering how much does a Z transformer go for at a train show??  and how much are a pair of #222 switches at a train show? I have never really seen these items or looked hard for them at a train show.  If anyone has seen these at a train show, what was the listed price of the item??  is it roughly the same price as in the price guide books?? or little more or little less??  As far as another loco, i have narrowed it down to a few, a #33, #38, #10, #50, #318, #318E, #380, or #380E.  I just wanna spend about $200 or so on 1 of these, not sure which is nice to have.  If anyone has any info on these loco let me know...thanks.

Depending on condition, I've see prices as low as $30 for junk-bin Zs and as high as $130 for nice ones from some dreamers.

The typical price for a decent condition seems to be in the $60-80 range. I paid $80 for a fairly nice one from a shop.

Sorry, I can't help you on the other items, as I'm not a standard gauge person.

I paid $30.00 for a V (150 watt version of the Z) at a train show last year. It's in excellent condition and required no work whatsoever. It's an early version with a chrome-plated brass control control panel and the chrome is worn but the markings are all very readable. A couple of aisles over, a guy had an exact duplicate (in appearance at least) for $85.00. Go figure.  Good luck and keep your eyes open - you never know what you'll find.
