"O" Christmas Tree!

Always have a light "ON" so you know the transformer is still plugged in.

Happy New Year!

My first picture post here, let's see if it works. These are from last year. I scaled back this year since my daughter got married in Nov. & that took up a lot of decorating time this year.

PS. There are my MPC PRR passenger cars in action that someone asked about in another thread.

DJ - you got a lot of trains running in a very small space! Wow! Nice job. Thumbs Up [tup]

Too bad the kids weren't happy, huh? Laugh [(-D]

Hopefully these are sort of clear.  The color on the WC passenger set is pretty nice as many have said.  The disney monorail is pretty cool, but being battery powered is SLOWWWWWWW.

Gabe is the little guy in the overall shot.  Now I am looking at making a super rare Wisconsin Central vista dome for my set ;)

Thanks again.

I got the track plan right out of a recent MTH Accesory catalog which featured several sample Realtrax layouts. This one is called Twice Around the Tree if I remember correctly.

The only difference is that the model trackplan had two switches with short sidings. I decided to do without these sidings as I was afraid of operator errors with my youngest son. I can always go back and add them at any time.

I like the way the trains meander around the 4x8, intead of ovals, which can get boring. This year I added DCS which has greatly improved operations as I can now run much slower (and quieter) than in conventional,  plus I control the smoke output and sounds on the fly.

Jumijo,

Thanks. But no, its a MTH Railking B&O blue Pacific with proto2 pulling a set of MTH Railking B&O 0-27 streamliners.

BTW, I enjoyed the recent article about your layout. Good job!Smile [:)]

Looks like it Jim, I am trying to load pics of the same set around our tree along with the monorail.

That set is a real beauty. I wish I lived near a Menards. I'd have bought one. I have some 027 Amtrack cars that I might repaint in that color scheme - if my kids will let me! Little Amtrack freaks! Wink [;)]

First time posting pics, hope this works.

About 4 years ago we started with a Pennsy Flyer set around the tree.  Last year we made a village with a trolley line on the window seat in our dining room.  This year my daughters (7 and 3) and I tried to take the village buildings for our expanded tree layout but the wife said "we won't have any room for the presents", so we don't have many buildings on the layout (yet).  Wonder what she'll say next year when I plan the 3 level layout ;)  Anyway, thanks for looking and Merry Christmas.

Hatch, nice layout!  Never too late.  Thanks for sharing.

Marty, very cute scene you have there!  Looks like someone has all 7 of the Polar Express cars??  Including...if I see it right...the disappearing Hobo car?!  Neat!

Joe's got it.  The New Year's Day that always follows Christmas by a week is in the next year.  The New Year's Day of any one year precedes Christmas by 358 or 359 days, or 51 weeks plus 1 or 2 days.

After going to as much trouble as you guys have to set those great Christmas layouts up, you should keep them as long as possible.  Christmas, or Yule, is by ancient tradition a 12-day holiday; December 25 is just the first day of Christmas.  Even the last day of Christmas, January 5, is followed by the Epiphany on January 6, which in many traditions is the more important end of the holiday, more than December 25 itself.  So there is ample historical justification for a Christmas layout (and Christmas celebration of all kinds) that lasts well into the new year!

A Christmas puzzle:  Is there ever a year in which Christmas and New Year's Day do not fall on the same day of the week?

Really great thread!  That's a tough question Bob,  looking forward to the answer.  Layouts are fantastic.
