?Great Northern 4-8-2? from about 1981?

Anyone know the number of a nice green and _____ steam engine from around 1981? I think it was a 4-8-2 or 4-8-4. It had the "elephant ears" shields on the sides at the front of the boiler. I could be wrong the the road name of it though.

The engine you are refering to is a Lionel 4-8-4 Great Northern from about 1981 or '82. It was based on the Lionel Postwar Berkshire and it's number is 6-3100. It was part of the third set in Lionel's Famous American Railroad series and it was really a great looking engine.

Hi Boyd,

That is a 4-8-4 from the 1981 FARR(Famous American RailRoads) set. They are lionel# 3100. These are very nice looking locomotives, I recently bought one off ebay for my Brother-in-Law, there have been several listed lately, the avg closing price has been about $200.00. Search on ebay for Lionel 3100, or for a broader search, search for Lionel Great Northern.

Yes, an excellent engine. A highlight of the Fundimension era. It's basically a dressed over postwar 736 Berk. Pullmore motor, magnetraction, mechanical reverse, and all. PULLS STUMPS.  I replaced the stock smoke unit with one of those super smokers for 736's. Screwed right in and now it smokes like crazy. If you can get one for $250 or less, GO FOR IT! You won't be dissapointed.
