wire size for TMCC accessories
Posted by trestrainfan on Monday, December 3, 2007 10:57 AM

I'm getting ready to set up TMCC for the first time on a temporary Christmas layout. I'm going to have switches and operating track, so I have an ASC and an OTC I want to hook up.

Does anyone have a wire size recommendation for the accessories? I'm thinking 18 ga, but is that too large?

While I'm asking, what size sire would you use for hooking up fastrack switches with track power?

Thanks.

18ga isn't too large.  Go with that as a minimum.  Some people go with 14ga here.  That's what I used.

Fasttrack switches running on track power don't need any wire running to them because they are getting power from the track...maybe it's a trick question?  If you are going to run them with aux power, then use the same as what you used above.

Use wire heavy enough to carry safely the maximum current that the supply, whatever it is, can put out (not just what you expect the load to draw normally).  Eighteen AWG is safe for about 7 amperes.
