On the subject of postwar, does anybody have any postwar cellebration series cars, engines, accessries, or sets? I myself dont have anything but a few pw accessories, some 151s, 394s and 154s.

On the subject of maintnence, I heard that the grease sold during the postwar period tended to harder over time, to the consistency of concrete. (I in fact read this on the trains.com website) Is the current grease sold by Lionel still cheap or of better quality?

Grayson,

Looking for a topic. Let’s talk maintenance.

Just like safety in the workplace, this is a subject that needs repeating. I’ve read bits and pieces here and there on this subject, but still have not found all the right answers. I only own Prewar Lionel and Marx, as well as Postwar Lionel, Marx and AF. They all need service.

Let’s start with a simple, and plentiful 2025 Lionel Postwar engine. I have one that needs a complete rebuild and refurbish, It's very sluggish, as well as the tender, whistle is mute. What products, cleaning solutions, tools, or anything else does one use to return such an engine and tender to like new performance? And than, how does one keep it that way?

Grayson - You have to edit your reply's "subject" box. Because eZak changed the subject to zeke's caboose and you replyed to that subject, your posts say "zeke's caboose".

Yea, but eZAK still needs to change his subject, as well as Alex, and you back to "Grayson's Caboose".

eZAK, please edit your post and change the subject back to what it should be. This is a place to talk about trains and such, and not zeke, im not having this. This will just make people not come to this thread, and make them mad, and we will have hundreds of posts about zeke. Now stop this, or else...... or else......... I set fire to my caboose! Laugh [(-D] Wink [;)]

You just have to learn to ignore the stuff that bugs you, Grayson! Believe me, I understand how you feel, there are a couple of probably really nice guys (as far as I can tell) who are on this forum who use catch phrases or tag lines that for some reason drive me crazy!

More than once when I wasn't feeling all that nice, I've felt like making a comment about them but I'm glad I didn't since the gentlemen in question have been both kind and helpful towards me.

Whats more my own handle, (which I innocently signed up with not knowing there was already a much more talented man who actually is called Thor), probably ticks people off too because they may think I shouldn't have 'appropriated' someone elses name! My real name is Mike, BTW.

So basically, you just have to learn to be tolerant, thick skinned and good humored. I guess.

Anyway, for what its worth, I'll be happy to join the crew at your caboose. - Mike.

Brass structures are nice but very $$$$. Do you plan on buying or building your structures?

Possibly both.  Brass Yard Tower by Weaver (Purchase).  Construct a Girder trestle with strip brass.  (Build if practical)

What's the big advantage in brass?

Also I am starting on the Christmas Layout, and I need to make a 54"R gider tressle with only 4-5 supports to go around the tree, 30-inches above the floor w/ tubular track 'cause I still want it to look like a toy train around the tree, and I need room to put the presents under/around.

I'm waffling about steel, brass or laminated and bent wood strips, but haven't quite arrived at a final idea.  I don't have a metal shear, but I can bend a 54"R circle easy enough, and I'll work out the web stiffeners either way.

Thoughts?

............................................................ Ok Kurt, aint you like a ex-architect now? Asking all these question that you should be answering youself??? So, lets talk about the advantages and disadvantages of tubular and fastrack..... Whistling [:-^] Wink [;)] I mean the quality of Lionel made, MTH diesels and steam wouldent still be ticking after 60 years for poswar and 80 years for prewar like Lionel's are.

So, what's on your mind.  It's your thread...  What do inquiring minds want to know?

Isn't there a caboose thread on the OGRe website?  Watching South Park reruns since the wife and kids are out right now - boys are trying to lose a baseball game so the season will end, but the other team has the same plan!  Ha - who will "win" this one?

"Morgan - don't swing only if it's a strike!"

This is funny, because it's true.  When I was in 7th grade, we had a coach who decided the season had gone long enough.  We were one game out, so he took out the first string and put in all the benchwarmers about the 5th inning.  That was that.  Angry [:(!]

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
