Christmas Music Boxcar conversion...
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, April 19, 2007 12:18 PM

I saw the Christmas Musical Boxcar in the Christmas Catalog and was wondering what it would take to convert it from 9V battery power to track power?

I was also thinking about converting it to TMCC using one of the ERR "Hot Box" Reefer controllers...

I'm thinking I would need:

1. 2 Roller Pickup Trucks with operating couplers
2. ERR Hot Box Reefer Commander

I was also thinking of using a BCR to power the sounds inplace of the battery... I would place the BCR between the roller pickups to charge it, then place the Hot Box Reefer controler between the BCR and the sound board...

Anyone know if this would work or would I need other components?  I hate putting batteries in my engines or in my rolling stock!

Brent, I have the Hobo Musical Boxcar.  It uses the 9 volt battery. It has an on/off switch.  A battery lasts a long long time in this car and it is loud.

I have another idea that you might want to check out. There is a link on the ERR site to a "Sound Sets" site, not sure of the name, that I might use for livestock cars. Take a look and see what you think. What I was thinking, if it can be done, how about a mercury switch in conjunction with the battery. Whenever the car is jostled it plays it's music. Approve [^]

Buckeye,
I have an older model of the Christmas Boxcar and yes it is loud and has an on/off switch, but what I want to be able to do is turn the music on and off without having to take it off the track... I know I'm lazy!  LOL!

Since the boxcar plays 12 songs, I don't think a 'jostle' to play feature would really work too well...
