I buy red black green and yellow 18 g wire in 100' spools. Plenty heavy always the right color and easy to work with.

I went to army and navy store and got 16 gauge dual stranded (the kind they use for lamp cords) for the whole layout cost was $15.00 for 300 feet.

One little problem is that the heavy wire doesn't fit too well into the SC-2. 16ga or 18 ga will work, but larger than that will be a problem.
