Did Anyone Bring Their Train to Work?

According to Model Railroader's e-mail, today is bring your train to work day. I didn't bring anything in, but I've had a couple of old Lionel signals, a banjo crossing signal, and a semaphore on my desk for a while. They get a lot of attention and comments too.

I probably would if I had a job. Don't feel bad, I'm not looking for one. I'm unemployed by choice.

I not only ride the train to work every day (both metro and VRE), I also drive my trains at work every day, as evidenced below. I'm likely to plan a much more elaborate layout with tinplate accessories in the future. When i get home, I work on my outside toy train layout so I'm doing trains 24/7 I suppose.

LAST office had HO layout on the wall that actually ran.

Dave,

Have you ever encountered a co-worker that had an issue with your trains at the office?

Jim,

Do you see the last 2 pictures of the HO trains? The reason I ran HO at that job site is b/c of a fat lady who smoked. One day I fired up my MTH 2-8-0 in the office, layed on the whistle a few times and fired her up, smoke and all. She went to the boss complaining about the smoke. Go figure.

The HO didn't smoke nor toot, nor was it as much fun, I might add.

When I left that job (due to a new idiot boss who was hired), I repaired the wall where the shelf layout went in and it looked good as new.

I find most people really really enjoy the toy trains and love to watch them run.

I turn off the sounds and run it at about 3 smph so it is not too distracting to me or coworkers. I program cool stuff with the DCS, whcih you can see in background. Haven't had a wreck yet, just a few derailments.

I brought in a small length of track and my Western MD Beep to display.

I would have brought a loop & a transformer, but I just don't have the space to set anything up.

I would have like to, but I took my MTH N&W J611 4-8-4 in a few months ago. Except for a couple of close co-workers it was fairly much ignored. Maybe next year.

Well, I didn't exactly bring a train to the office today, but UPS brought a train to me at the office (which is where I have all packages delivered).

In this case, the item was a K-Line "U.S. War Department" Porter, along with a few Lionel FasTrack items. I ordered the locomotive from JusTrains on Tuesday, and received it today. Pretty darn good service as far as I am concerned. I haven't had a chance to examine or operate the new locomotive yet, but will attend to that after the pooch and I take an evening walk.

A few colleagues got to take a peek at the newest item on my roster, but I was pretty busy throughout that day dealing with ESPN and CBS regarding some football-related stories and such, and really didn't have a chance to show the Porter around much.

But at least I have a new toy to fuss around with over the weekend, and some additional track components to add to my small, in-progress holiday layout. And just about everyone in and around my office already knows full well how involved I am with trains. A couple of them have already gotten their feet wet in the hobby over the past few years--buying train sets for around their Christmas trees. Ya gotta start somewhere!

Since today I was at home working and both the G and O Scale were both run for Chuck's visit, I believe that counts.

Not exactly a train per se' but I do have a Lionel calender hanging in my cubicle along with the L&N Historical society calender and the prototype train calender along with the Lionel desk calender. I have four train calenders in my cubicle all totalled.

Since I work from home and on the road every day , and some times in the train room, I would call it bring work to trains day, and that is almost every day for me.

folks at the office resent me and my trains. they just know deep in their hearts that i am having more fun than they are, and that urinates them. cest la vis.

i do keep on my desk one of those old time locomotives that you get at a train show for seven dollars. it is easily recognizable by train people (kinda like a secret handshake), and that's how i know who to give the best deals to. also, it is good for keeping a kid busy while his grownups are busy with "serious things".
