Creepy TMCC Question
Posted by highrailjon on Saturday, March 26, 2005 12:41 PM
I've noticed a couple of times while running a locomotive on the main loop the other locomotive on the siding, that I have not even addressed yet will start to creep down the siding by itself! I've gotten rid of all my surge type multi-strips and am using an MTH Z-4000 transformer, which Train America Studios says may be the problem. Any input would be appreciated, Thanks, Jon

I have experienced the creep and it has always been that I had not really turned the speed all the way down. Best thing is to hit DIR twice when you stop (which resets speed to zero and then puts it in forward again).

Also, if you've adressed the engine for some reason, it can sometimes start moving even wthout touch the red knob. The knob seems to be overly sensitive to ths slightest vibration, which it is especially prone to in a handheld enviroment.

Jon, be careful, next they might say it's because you use MTH track.[;)][(-D][(-D][(-D][^]

LOL, Tom! Thanks everyone for your input so far!! I'll try the double "dir" method and see if it helps. I'm kinda wondering if it's not my layout babes playing games!!![:D] (click to enlarge, you know you want to!!!)[:D]

Hey Jon!
I think about your babes in my sleep -
The same ones that makes your train creep...
When that happens to me
I just count to T-H-R-E-E
And switch to my DCS BEEP...(wink)
Small Layouts are cool! Low post counts are even more cool! NO GRITS in my pot!!!

One thing about the MTH Z4000 that gave qsi systems a problem is it does not shut down to 0 volts. The qsi systems all, proto 1 and 1,2,2+ and 3000 require a 0 voltage to change states. I do not know it that is causing the problem or not. Try a 10 watt 10 ohm resistor accross center rail to outside rail to drop the voltage to 0 and see if the problem stops. Dave.

I have had the exact same situation and Roy's answer is foolproof. I also always try to hit the whistle or horn before I set an engine in motion to make sure I have the correct engine punched into the CAB-1. I've been know to punch in the wrong numbers especially after St. Patrick's Day festivities. [:)]
