Postwar Whistle
Posted by laketrains on Saturday, November 15, 2014 2:54 PM

I have a postwar 1875W General whistling coach. The whistle works well, however it occasionally starts on its own going around the track without the whistle button being pressed. It does not stay on more than a second or two. What is causing the whistle to do this? Thanks!

A random blowing of the whistle (or horn on a diesel) is generally caused by a slight interruption in voltage to the tender (or locomotive). Clean the track, wheels and roller pickups with naphtha, and the problem should stop.

Thanks Larry, I'll give it a try. I thought I had cleaned everything, but maybe not enough. I have never experienced this before with any of my postwar tenders.
