Toy Train Prenups

My current and former bosses have experienced some of life's ups and downs and both strongly advise prenups. Interestingly, there's a coworker gal who's tying the knot this summer, who disagrees w/prenups.

Agree or disagree, a toy train prenup might be good to have; esp. if you are a big spender or take extended train-related vacations and your fiance doesn't like trains.

I'm still single and never had a toy train problem with my trail of ex-wives, but, after hearing other horror stories from my toy train friends,

Perhaps a toy train prenup would indicate who gets the trains upon dissolution of marriage and how much income can be spent on trains during marriage; and how much of the house (and back yard) can be taken up with layout real estate.

Some say it is better to discuss these things before marriage, rather than later. I think I'd rather do just that; discuss them rather than put them in writing in a prenup.

I know I'd rather discuss it rather than write it into a contract. My girlfriend is very reasonable about my hobby. In fact she really likes it, because she knows when she's not around I'm not out drinking or seeing other women. She knows when she's not around, if I'm not home, I'm probably at the hardware store or a hobby shop.

And the skills I developed working on trains have helped her--the ability to fix trains has also given me the ability to fix lots of other things. If it weren't for the trains I wouldn't know anything about different kinds of glues or paint, for instance.

She might feel differently if I were buying a $1,500 locomotive every month, but I don't. I pace myself. So they really don't cause much in the way of problems.

Here in Minnesota, my trains would be exempt because they would be considered PRE MARITAL. In my recent divorce, my ex walked away with no trains and very little other stuff. I was able to show that it was NON MARITAL, ie not EARNED during the marriage. Most of what I have I inherited, so it stays with me.

IF I get remarried, and that is a big if, some things may be spelled out, but Big Girl doesn't strike me as a "golddigger", and I don't think she would disagree with any of my wishes. Beside, she and I will probably be together until the day one of us dies. I don't need a prenup, I need a will.[swg]

Perhaps you can build her a scale dollhouse to fit them all in or at least a Mother Hubbard Shoe.

A friend of mine went thru a divorce and his ex walked away with his baseball card collection. You are lucky. Big Girl sounds like a nice pick; as she occasionally makes a cameo appearance on the forum.

Thanks Dave, I think she's a keeper. She ain't no dainty beauty queen. Actually she's a bit of a tomboy, but it makes her so easy to get along with, and that is worth a lot more to me than all that other crap.

Maybe the best way to describe her is: fun in the kitchen, fun in the train room, and fun in the bedroom!!! What more could a guy want?[swg]

I have to agree with elliot; better to be built for comfort than built for speed. ;-) Never was happier than when I started choosing women based on the fun I had with them and to heck with what anybody else thought. That fancy 'arm-candy' usually comes at a very high-price.

As for prenups; if you are marrying young and you have nothing then why bother? If you are middle-aged and have a pile of "stuff" better to define what each partner is bringing into the marriage and will be taking away in the case of dissolution.

As for my trains; I bought them during the marriage and therefore they are in play in the case of a divorce. Yet another reason not to get divorced!!!!!

Oh heck NO, That’s not all the dolls. She must have over 300 of them and I don’t have 150 engines. She must be counting the rolling stock also. I’m on the short end of that one.

But have to point out that she was the one who bought me my starter set for Xmas when I returned back to the hobby. I wonder if she knew what it would lead to.

Tom ,all you need is a tent and you could have a doll revival. After being married for 25 wonderful years..yes to the same woman..I wouldnt trade it for anything. She has never said a word about what I spend on trains, but of course I dont go hog wild either. As a matter fact she insisted I buy the one thats on the way by fedex, because its like the one we see by here all the time ( BNSF).DOWN SIDE IS SHE GETS A NEW SUV EVERY 2 YEARS. I put the trains in my seperation agreement. Don't trust any of them. Got it all when I left. If I hadn't gotten it all, my son would have made too much noise anyway.
