I fired 2 rounds from an M16 that was brand new out of a box and it jammed.  That was 1967 off the flight deck of the USS Tripoli, right before making an assault by helicopter into the DMZ in Vietnam.  That weapon killed a lot of people because it wasn't ready for the field when we were forced to use it. The AK47 was a much more reliable weapon, and it looked like junk.  Hope they have improved the M16 some since then.

But I digress.  I like flying regular planes and RC planes besides playing with trains.

Agree. It's crap (A1). Never fired the A2.

Anjdevil2: I used to belong 20yrs ago when my car was on the road. I did go to a show about 3yrs ago. There were some amazing Hemis and 6 pack cars.

Like others here, I have three kids in a range of ages, so apart from keeping an eye on everyone... my other interests include reading about railroading and modeling, collecting and listening to 'old-time' radio shows, writing reviews of new paper wargames, leading a men's group, and running a 7 person camera and video team at our church.

1.  Building and playing folk music instruments, mostly hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, hurdy gurdy, ukulele, and recorder.

Hurdy-gurdy?!  I just got one.  I have to wonder how many model railroaders out there play this contraption.  Probably darned few.

Other interests:  wire-strung harp, Hammond organ, antique mechanical music (player pianos, music boxes, windup phonographs), vintage electrical appliances (fans, mixers, toasters, etc.), tube radios, Arts and Crafts movement, restoring our 107-year-old Craftsman bungalow.

Motorcycles have owned bikes since i was 16 now im 50.  Stock car racing I was a crew chief on a late model sportsman that won the track championship 3 years in a row. One year we won 9 races in a single season. I also own a 63 chevy 2 nova that ive had for about 20 years Motorsports and cars are a big interest for me. But i love my trains.

Joel, I'm not really into collecting old appliances, but I do have a Toast-A-Lator that I treasure.  Despite being as old as I am, it still works perfectly.  I noticed one on display in the Smithsonian not long ago.

Rob, is that used on the Finger Lakes? 

I bought it in Penn Yan(was based on Seneca Lake), but it has not seen Finger Lakes waters since 1996 when I took it to the Adirondacks.  It can be seen plying the waters between Old Forge & Blue Mountain Lake from May-October.

I keep a Glastron in Canandaigua, but it doesn't get used much.

Talk about a coincidence! My 4 year old sons were on the computer last night watching home-made Thomas videos on YouTube. I wonder if they watched any of yours. They seemed to enjoy the home-made ones with the plastic track and motorized plastic trains over the real Thomas videos. And how they found Thomas, I'll never know. It being so close to Halloween, I pulled up a Casper the Ghost cartoon for them and went back to watching the Red Sox celebration.

lets see... there is Lionel around X-mas... S guage collecting year round... and the HO scale layout and the G scale garden train....hmmm. I guess I like to golf, boat, work on old cars, spend time with my two daughters.... but otherwise its... Trains! Trains! Trains!

The Toast-o-Lator is one of the most popular toasters among toaster collectors.  I have one and it is my wife's favorite.

If it's old and mechanical, I like it.  I may own an example; I probably like to work on it; and I certainly read widely about it.

Reading and writing.

History, especially History of the Ozarks and Military History.  Our family is currently getting involved in Civil War reenacting.

Music.  I play the mountain duclimer in fits and spurts, but I sing, both with our church choir and from time to time with frineds who do Americana/folk music.  My wife is struggling with teh violin and the piano; the boys are do for introduction to piano, too.

I build models--or, at least I used to when I had time--mostly USN ships, WWII US armor, and custom trucks.  Buildings and so forth for the trains as well, of course.

Shooting and archery.  For my Civil War impression, I'm starting to learn the mysteries of black powder.

Scouts:  both my sons are in Scouts, so my wife and I are, too.

 

This lengthy post implies that I have lots of free time.  Nothing could be further from the truth!
