There has never been a locomotive that had the sheer elegance of the Gresley A3 and A4 Pacifics nor the performance.

Also SP9811; It's good to see that there are others out there who have a high regard for the GS-6 class!! I wish MTH would produce it in O-gauge Premier.

Whether they were built by Lima, Baldwin, Alco or Inhouse shopped, all have interesting histories.

I really like the ALCO Bigboys. They look really impressive in the picturies. I have never seen one in the iron so to speak. I also like the old camelbacks. moparjunky

Who can choose a favorite steamer? It's like I don't have a "best friend". I like all my friends or they wouldn't be my friends. I don't make distinctions among them. It's the same with steamers. I like SP Harriman Consolidations because I had my first cab ride in one. I like Cab-forwards because I saw a lot of them climbing the Sierra grades when I was a kid. I like Daylight 4-8-4's because they were the handsomest streamlined steamers. I like Pennsy engines because I model them in HO. I like Santa Fe Hudson's and Northerns because I lucked into some old Japanese brass ones and restored them after they had been abused by previous owners. I have to admit that some Delaware & Hudson engines were butt-ugly but still they were steam!

Maybe it's just the "underdog/unheralded/limited exposure" factor but I feel the best looking (and for what it did-performing) loco was the N&W "J"s 4-8-4-classic lines and proportions

Gunns, as a UP steam freak, it's tough to admit, but 2926 is a beauty. I looked at your web site but am still curious if NMRHS can project a tentative time frame to get her runing again.

Hmmm. Where is the 2-6-6-4? My all time favorite steamer, N&W 1218,surely must rank high on many fans lists. When I saw 1218 take 25 cars (not all of 'em lightweights) out of a rain drenched yard at Conneaut,Ohio, without using sand- forbidden by the rules- in two FANTASTIC attempts-That was it! A year or two later I paced her on US20 out of Erie,PA, with almost the same consist,she made the 40 MPH speed limit and sounded content. She was at the top of her horespower curve and she "wanted" to show off for the boss (Robert M. Clator). I MISS that big girl! Peter Benham/ Kenmore NY

Mine wasnt on the list, I love the looks of the ICRR 300 class Rodgers Ten Wheelers from the turn of the century, beautifuly laid out locomotive, simple main rods, inside stephenson valve motion, Lima Arc headlight, spoked pilot wheels. To bad one wasnt saved for a museum, espicaly the 382 that J.L. Jones road into glory. Cheers Mike
