Depot Operations Roodhouse, Illinois
Posted by Hair on Saturday, August 27, 2011 11:21 PM

Anyone out there familiar with Roodhouse Illinois operations?  It was a booming town in the 30's and 40's. It is located between St. Louis and Chicago. It had a roundhouse, turntable a substantial icing facility and one of the most classic depots I have ever seen.  I would like any photos or information any of you may have.  The earliest line I remember was GM & O.  Later it served IC.  I believe Illinois Terminal has it now.  Thanks for your help.

I am not familiar with current operations at Roodhouse, but I did sleep overnight in the station back in '48.  Had to get to Ashland to relieve the agent for vaction, so took the through evening train to Roodhouse, slept on the benches by squeezing through the arm rests (fortunately didn't decapitate myself), and in the morning, rode the motorcar local from KC back to Ashland.

Kansas City Southern owns the tracks now, KC to Springfield, and Roodhouse down to the UP with (I believe) access to E. St.Louis.
