Classic Trains DVD

For those of you who purchased this, some information.

 

It installs to your computer.  You do not read off of the DVD - so once you've installed the DVD you can remove it from your drive.

It leaves a 3.61 gig "footprint" on the drive to which you install it.  Your choice during set-up.

The issues are saved as PDF's...the covers as JPG thumbnails.

It runs fine with Windows 7 x 64bit.

I haven't indexed the folder yet, but you may also be able to search via your Win7 search once indexed.

You can search within the program and even set "favorites".

I am having some "printer" issues.    As in the print icon at the top opens the printer dialog but will not allow you to print because "it cannot find your printer".   More on this when I figure out the problem

The only print command that seems to work is to the built-in Microsoft XPS writer.    Once you print and save to that format, you can then print to a standard printer, print to another file, or print to another pdf (if you want to do any of these things).      In examining the .dll files installed with the DVD I believe I've found the "culprit" preventing successful direct print.     And, I have a call into Kalmbach.    I'll update this post when I find out more news.

I received my DVD about an hour and a half ago and installed it. I really like what I have seen so far.

I wrote this post to let people know that despite the Canadian postal strike it finally did arrive. I placed my order the first day I saw it mentioned in the Classic Trains newsletter. It was post marked June 2 and arrived today July 4.

Now back to enjoying the DVD.

After loading the Trains Magazine DVD, it requires a password to open, but nothing in intstructions.  Any idea what to do next?

The TRAINS DVD or the CLASSIC TRAINS DVD?     If the latter, when you installed , the installation "should" have placed a shortcut on your desktop.     The "password" is built into the program as a registry key entry.     For example if you try to open the PDF's by themselves, you will get this "password" issue.   But, if you go through their built in launcher it calls the registry which checks the version installed on your computer , enables a .dll file, issues this "password" and your Classic Trains issues open up.

Please give me your OS specifications and location of the installation.

Did you hear back from Kalmbach concerning the print issue??  It's June 2014 and I am still having the print issue with NO information to be found on the web.....
