Spotted: UP Passenger Cars on the Move
Posted by Utley26 on Saturday, November 6, 2010 11:47 AM

The other day (Monday 11/1/10) my wife was driving home and spotted a set of three Union Pacific passenger cars headed south.  See the photos here:  http://railwatch.blogspot.com/

The photos were taken southbound on FM 2154 (Wellborn Road), just south of College Station, TX.  The train passed her, heading south.  Does anyone have any information on them?  What they might have been doing?  Headed to an excursion or display somewhere?   This is a busy single-track freight line, so it was really surprising when she called to say she saw a "passenger train" on her way home.

They always call it an inspection train.

The upper management wants to go some where on vacation. They write an order that a certain route needs to be checked over.

They load their family and or friends into several passenger cars and off they go.

Any one wants to go to the "Rose Bowl" game.

I have the transportation and meals and rooms sitting on a siding.

In the past you may have been correct....in today's lean, mean railroads...every operation of office car equipment has a definate purpose....when the equipment is operated to events such as the Rose Bow, Super Bowl, Kentucky Derby etc., those trips are 'sponsored' for customer relations and generally 'signifigant' customers of the corporation are invited for the trip.  Face to face relations are still a part of the sales routines....no matter what you are selling.
