"Flight of the Century"
Posted by Redwards on Sunday, October 18, 2009 7:46 AM

I came across this old New York Central film extolling the virtues of the heavyweight '20th Century Limited' on YouTube.  I always thought, given the chance, I'd want to ride the Dreyfus styled '38 Century but that open platform observation looks so inviting - cinders be d*mned!

Yes, thanks for posting these two. I will forward the links to my wife, who likes the Century. One note: these are not of the '38 Century, which was lightweight, but of the heavyweight train, which was re-equipped in the twenties.

My wife called me on our in-house intercom a little while ago, thanking Redwards for posting the links.

"The fastest long distance train in the world," it says, New York to Chicago in 17 hours. Today's Lake Shore Limited is scheduled to make the same run in 18 hours. Ah, progress....
