the engines builder Rogers: why did it disappear?

Rogers was a big steam engine producer in the late 1800 supplying several railroads, but then it disappeared quite abruptly. What did happen?

It was one of several builders that merged to form the American Locomotive Company in 1901.

SSW 9389 has cleared the bases. As to why the Rogers facility closed, it was not on a railroad! Their locomotives had to be pulled through the streets to their nearest railhead. It was also obsolete for other reasons,too. The Steinbrenner book is highly recommended.
