SSW 9389 has cleared the bases. As to why the Rogers facility closed, it was not on a railroad! Their locomotives had to be pulled through the streets to their nearest railhead. It was also obsolete for other reasons, too. The Steinbrenner book is highly recommended.

Rogers was not one of the original seven locomotive manufacturers that became the American Locomotive Company in 1901. Rogers was acquired by American in January 1905. From The American Locomotive Company a Centennial Remembrance by Richard Stienbrenner, p.52. [8D]

It was one of several builders that merged to form the American Locomotive Company in 1901.

Rogers was a big steam engine producer in the late 1800 supplying several railroads, but then it disappeared quite abruptly. What did happen?
