Quite true David. The Newark Subway ( And a LOT of people had no idea it existed, including me!) is still around, it's the last remnant of the Public Service trolley empire.

A little-known fact, HBLR was the first rail service back in action after Hurricane Sandy devastated the rest of NJ Transit's rail system in the area. HBLR officials wisely heeded the warnings of flooding from Sandy and moved their equipment to safe areas. In fact, HBLR was asked by NJ Transit officials NOT to start up as soon as they did so the rest of the system wouldn't look bad!
