Piedmont Crosses the Yadkin River

Posted by Trains Magazine

North Carolina DOT’s south bound Piedmont crosses the Yadkin River five miles north of Salisbury in May 2012. This is Norfolk Southern’s ex-Southern Railway main. Photo taken from the U.S. Route 29 bridge, which is adjacent to the NS bridge. The Piedmont or Piedmont Service is a twice-daily passenger train operated by Amtrak and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) between Raleigh and Charlotte, North Carolina. Operation began in May 1995. North Carolina owns the rolling stock used on the Piedmont, unlike the Carolinian which uses Amtrak rolling stock. Photo by Alex Mayes.
