Norfolk Southern train 12R soars high above the James River two miles north of Lynchburg, Va., as it heads north on June 12, 2007. This train originated in Linwood, N.C., and is en route to Binghamton, N.Y. This location is on the former Southern Railway's New Orleans to Alexandria, Va., main, and is a part of their Crescent Corridor route. The rear of the train is crossing over CSX's ex-C&O James River Line.
